Will not work under the new GPL Releases.

First install WZS itself (just unzip it, it doesn't have any installation programs)
[into the root directory of pumpkin studios] ( my reason for doing this is everything will be where you can find it.

Then start Setup.exe and select the directory you extracted WZS to.
After the installation you shouldn't have any problems starting WZS.
NOTE
====
Launch Setup.exe if you are experiencing problems when starting 'Warzone Starter'.
You don't have to do it if you have no problems with Warzone Starter.
Setup.exe will install files required for WZS to run properly.

==============================
What does Warzone Starter do?:
==============================

-With WZS (Warzone Starter) you can choose your settings before starting
Warzone2100.

-You can change screen resolution, render mode (D3D, 3dfx, software), you can even start
campaign 2 or 3 without finishing campaign 1 first, you can enable Warzone Debug Mode
to test your maps/MODs or just to cheat with it (in single player mode of cause :D).

-With WZS you don't have to make more that 1 directory for WZ anymore, because you can simply
disable MODs you don't want to use and enable them again later. When MODs are disabled they
are not loaded by Warzone2100.

-You can online games with your friends with WZS without any WZ compatibility problems.

-And finally!! With WZS you can choose different AIs before you start the game.
Bored of playing against Pumpkin's latest 1.10 AI? No problem. WZS comes with 3 new AIs:
Pumpkin's 1.04 AI is much harder than 1.10, try it and you will notice it uses much stronger
units than 1.10.

Do you think it's too easy to destroy AI's base? No problem, activate Turtle AI and try to
crack its base, you have to believe me it's harder than you might think. Turtle AI is a totally
different defensive skirmish AI.

Water AI is an advanced skirmish aggressive AI.

TurtleAI/1.04 makes a perfect mix ;-)

If you still think it's too easy to beat AIs then enable '1.10 + Humans vs. AI's' rules file.
It will ally all AI players with each other so they won't attack each other and
will concentrate on *you* :P

==============================
How to use Host/Join game tab:
==============================
All players who want to play should start WZS. The host must select "Host" all other players
"Join". The host should give his IP to all players who want to join. Then they should add
host's IP to the list, select it and click "USER->CONNECT" all players will be connected
to the host.

When a players is connected to the Host WZS will check his Warzone configuration
(MODs, AIs) so that Warzone will not kick anybody during the game with "PlayerX has different
data" message.

The host can decide what AI to use during the game by pressing "OTHER->SYNCHRONIZE AIs" button.

If the game can't be found after the game is launched by the host try pressing "refresh"
button in Warzone2100.

NOTE: "Host/Join game tab" is still under construction and is still buggy.
For example sometimes it will not show your real ip number (AOL users etc).

Don't forget to check for updates by pressing "TOOLS->CHECK FOR UPDATES" button in
"MISC" tab to get latest WZS version, new AIs and new rules files ;-)

===============
KNOWN PROBLEMS:
===============
-If you selected 3dfx mode and screen resolution bigger than 800x600 and it's still
800x600 try selecting D3D mode.

-If you will select more that 3 TurtleAIs you can get error message when loading a map in
Warzone. It happens because TurtleAI is much larger than original 1.10 AI. In this case
replace TurtleAI by any other AI and restart Warzone.

-If you will select 1.10 AI for all players it will not make your Warzone compatible with
MPlayer, you have to press "TOOLS->MAKE COMPATIBLE WITH MPLAYER" button to make your
Warzone compatible with MPlayer.

HAVE FUN! :D

Warzone starter userguide for multi and single player

by Richard Luck aka Papa Lazarou

Introduction

Welcome travelers, to my hopefully comprehensive narrative, about the many nuances of the piece of software you know as Warzone Starter, or as we tend to call it WZS. By the end of the document I shall have taken you through all the various menus and given how to's on performing various functions.

I hope you find this document helpful.

The Interface

Ignore the tabs on the right for now, lets take a look at the menu on the left

Display Options
The functions of this menu should be fairly obvious to anyone who has good gaming experience. You have a drop down menu to select resolution, checkboxes to select what kind of graphics api you use. When using WZS to launch editworld, you also have a choice of what graphics api you would like to use.
You also have 3 buttons below that. "Start Warzone", "Start EW" and "<<". The Start Warzone button will launch warzone with the settings you have input into WZS. The Start EW button will launch editworld with the settings you have input into WZS. The << button will hide the tabs on the right.

The MISC Tab

At the very top of the screen, you can see a checkbox directly under the misc tab itself. Click this box and you can select from the drop down menu below it, where to start in the campaign, or run through the tutorial.
Of the 6 options below, some are self explanatory, some are not. Debug mode, allows you to take control of all actions during a game, best used for testing new mods and finding out exactly how things interact with each other. Set phrase, allows you to type in a message that can be displayed in multiplayer at the press of a button. As you will see it uses the keys F1 through F5.
The "Open WZ folder" button does exactly what it says on the tin. You will also notice 2 more buttons to the right, Tools and options.
If you click on the arrow next to tools, there is one option here I want you to look at. Make compatible with mplayer, will reset all your settings to defaults, this is invaluable for ensuring you have the same settings for multiplayer games. When running this procedure, it may tell you to disable mods and that your warzone.wdg file is corrupt, ignore these messages, I will go into the use of mods in greater detail later.

The MODs Tab

Selecting mods is pretty simple, all you have to do is click on them. However, insuring that everything compatible is a tad more complex. Here are a few general rules to follow. Maps will not cause incompatibility problems with mods, you can enable many maps at once and it will work fine, however there is a 4 map limit in the map selection screen within warzone, so don't enable too many. Mods and custom AI, might not work. If an AI requires a particular unit template that has been changed by a mod, it will crash WZ upon starting the game. Custom AI and Maps should work, however GKai doesn't like certain custom maps, but will run on all stock maps. If in doubt, a custom made item, be it a mod/map/AI will always be compatible if everything around it is default. i.e., stock maps, 1.10AI, no mods etc.

All Players must have the same mods enabled as each other. Maps are NOT mods.

The AI Tab

This menu will allow you to select which AI player uses what AI and whether you want all AI allied against the Human player(s) . If you select the drop down menus for each player you can assign that player an AI, if you hold the cursor over a field, it will tell you which player will be assigned that AI. In the rules menu, if you select "1.10 + humans vs. AI (enable alliances)" all the AI will ally against the human players. If you select "Original 1.10 AI" it will be a normal skirmish game. You can only enable 6 GKai, 3 turtle, 3 water and 3 bones AI at any one time. You can use turtle, bones and water AI together, but GKai is only compatible with 1.10 and 1.04 AIs. All players must have exactly the same AI settings. Once you have the correct AI settings, hit the "Apply" button.

(please see: using A.I.)

The Host/Join Game Tab

Want to join a game? Select join, check the Multiplayer Game box and in the field below that, put the hosts IP address in. Want to host a game? select Host, then put a check in the multiplayer game box and give everyone your IP address. As host, make sure everyone is clear not to press any of the buttons in the "user" or "other" menus. It could get very messy if everyone started pressing things, as you will realize upon reading further. The most invaluable tool in the user menu, is the "get current user status" option. This will tell you everything he has enabled that is different to you, allowing you to tell the player what to change in order to make their config compatible. Once the config for everyone is compatible, start warzone and choose maps/bases etc as you normally would and broadcast the game. Now people can connect. Until you as host click on that big OK button in the game lobby that launches the game, you can change any setting in starter. It's only when you hit that button that the game compiles the information and throws out any incompatibility errors.

Here's the latest build of Warzone Starter 2 (WZS).

This program lets you start and customize Warzone 2100 to suite your needs.

It comes with custom and original AIs pre-installed. You can assign AIs for each of the 8 players by going to the "AI" tab and selecting AI from drop down list boxes. <Don't change> means that WZS will not modify AI for this player.
At the bottom of this page you will see a list box where you can select so-called "rules". Those are set of general in-game rules which apply to all players.

You will also notice checkboxes next to AIs and rules. By checking a checkbox next to AI (or rules) you will force WZS to use customized version of this AI. Only "GK Customizable" AI (Genghis Khan AI) and "Humans vs AIs" rules support this feature right now. They are customizable.

That means that if you select "GK Customizable" AI, you can click on "Value customizing" buttom on the top right corner of that page and you will be able to customize some values and modify AI behaviour.

In order to make WZS use your, modified, version of AI, you have to make sure that the check-box next to AI-list-box is checked (on the main screen, "AI" tab.)

If you want to use any custom MODs, you can go to the "MODs" screen and enable/disable MODs by checking the check-boxes next to them.But be carefull, not all MODs are compatible with each other. If you want to be on the safe side, don't enable too many MODs at once (unless those MODs are maps).

If the MOD you selected is a map, WZS will generate preview of the map.

If you will get any error messages in Warzone, when starting a game, it is most likely due to a MOD conflict. You can press "More->Disable unsafe MODs" in WZS, on "MODs" tab to disable MODs which might cause you trobles.
But keep in mind, that some AIs, like WaterAI and Genghis Khan AI are linked to one or more MODs (the MOD is called "Resources" for GK and Water AIs) and if this MOD is disabled (unchecked in WZS), then you will get an error message when loading a map in Warzone.

When you select any AI or Rules, WZS will detect if this AI/Rules is linked to any MODs and enable it automcatically for you.
After you think you have set-up everything, just hit "Start Warzone" button and enjoy.

Thanks to Karmazilla and Grizzly_37 for help with debugging this version of WZS.

PS: i'm sorry for any GUI problems. The size of controls seems to be different on all machines and your gui might look ... well a bit weird. We tried to hunt down all problems, but there might be still some left.

The updated version has a box for windowed playing if you wish to do this. also updated A.I

As you can see here AIvolution is a new "learning" ai... every game played on the same map - the ai gains and retains that knowledge... and becomes harder to beat.

I have made a quick hack, it now supports all 3 default tilesets. This is the only addition to this version.
